Collaboration.

Creating my list of processes throughout this project helpled me to realise I could do with a hand in creating textures. I asked my friend Tracey Feeney to create me some textures, I showed her the research I had done and showed her the style I was hoping to achieve, I asked Tracey if she would create me a mud texture which I would use on the ground of my playground, I explained that it would be half covered in grass to give the effect it was dying. I also asked Tracey if she would create me a glass texture which I could use on all my buildings, I showed her my storyboard and first pass animatic and told her I would need some cracks to give the effect of a broken window. Finally I asked Tracey if she would create me one destroyed building for my background, which I would place behind my modelled buildings, again I showed Tracey the styles I liked and explained the outcome I was trying to achieve.
Tracey Feeney asked me to create the rain for her film, she is doing a 2d piece using Photoshop and then using Aftereffects to animate. Tracey's short film is based on the men at work sign, this piece of animation will consist of a small work area on a street, the silhouette of the man in the road work sign comes to life and dances in the rain to a singing in the rain sound track. The piece is very cartoony and Tracey would like to keep to the same style for the rain, I was shown the animatic and storyboards and I had a fair idea of what she was hoping to achieve.

List.

I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of everything I needed to do throughout this project, I understand things may pop up and could change this but at least I will have a rough idea of what to do and aim for. This will also give me a chance to eliminate a task as this could be part of somebody else's unit collaboration.
Things to do:
1, Once happy I need to start modelling as soon as possible:
- Broken fence around playground.
- Broken swing set.
- Seesaw.
- Two benches.
- Two rubbish bins.
2, Trees surrounding the park, (this will be created using the brush tool in Maya).
3, Lamp posts (I would like these to have an orange/amber glow to them, seen as I am hoping to achieve a fairly dull and grey evening.
4, Buildings, (Off the top of my head and using my animatics, I would say I would need to model around twelve buildings using Maya).
5, Rubble surrounding all the buildings.
6, Pavement/road.
7, Background buildings, (which will be created using sourced images and then manipulated using Photoshop).
8, Sphere, (which will act as the sky to surround my destroyed city).
9, Textures:
- Mud texture for the playground.
- Half grown grass over the top of the mud to give the effect it is dying, (I will use a brush tool in Maya to create this effect).
- Wood texture for the fencing surrounding the playground.
- Swing set texture.
- Seesaw texture.
- Wood texture for the benches and the bins, (I would like these to have different colours of wood on them).
- Road/pavement texture.
-A texture for the lamp posts.
- Twelve different textures for the buildings.
- Window texture, - one broken and one not, (I would like these to be quite dirty).
- Sky texture for the sphere.
10, Lighting and cameras.
11, Render.
12, Credits.
13, Sound.
14, Collaborate and work with somebody else.
After looking at the work in hand, I think it would be in my greatest interest if I brought somebody on board to create some textures for me, this can be done throughtout the modelling process.

Second Pass Animatic..

As the first pass animatic was a little hard to follow due to the camera, I thought I would jump straight into Maya and create a simple block-out showing how I would like my buildings to surround the street and the playground.

Below is my second pass animatic.

First Pass Animatic.

After completing my storyboard I thought the best thing to do, would be to create my first pass animatic to get more of an idea of the camera movements, length of the final project and if there are enough buildings in and surrounding the city.
Below is my first pass animatic.

Unfortunately the camera is a little unclear however I am happy with the amount of buildings and think the project will work well. I realise I will have to spend a lot of time modelling the buildings and the playground but I am happy with the layout of the city. I will be able to refer back to this animatic when using Maya to create my destroyed city.

Storyboarding.

After completing my pitch I decided to create a rough storyboard to make sure I was happy with my idea.

After completing my storyboard I was happy, the idea was fairly simple but could become complicated with the amount of detail I could put into the modelling of the buildings and the textures, which would complete the idea of a destroyed city. The camera passes under the swing set and I liked this because it will give the audience something different to look at, it hopefully will make the completed project more interesting.

Research.

I thought it would be a good idea to take a look both some buildings in general and some destroyed buildings to get a greater idea of the look I was going for. This research will help me when I am modelling.

Below are a few pictures of buildings sourced from the Internet which I believe will help me during this project.

Here is a picture of some some already destroyed buildings to give me an idea of different styles used and also a picture of buildings which gives me an idea of the different types of buildings.

Also these pictures include destroyed buildings, i especially like the style of the building on the left, I like the rusty and dirty look. I will defernatly be following this style when creating my textures.

This is a picture of a basic swing set and bin, this is the shape of them I had in mind when I decided to model a playground area.

This is a picture of a blue, cloudy sky, I like this but I will be creating a texture for me sky which is less cloudy and more grey.

I thought it would be helpful to look at different types of rubble as I would like rubble surround the destroyed buildings. I just wanted to get an idea of the way it would surround different types of buildings.

After looking at different stlye buildings I decided to go into photoshop and create some different stlyed buildings which I will be later modelling in Maya.

Below is a variety of different buildings I have created.

I like the different types of buildings here and I will defernatly be modelling these in Maya for my final destroyed city.

I have decieded that my destroyed buildings are going to have chuncks missing off different parts of the building, I do not want them all completely destroyed but some of them are just going to have a little bit of the base of the building and will be surrounded by rubble. I am going to model the rubble in Maya and use a variety of different shapes and sizes, I will be using the textures I will use for my building because this will show the audience it has come from that particular building.
